A children’s curriculum for Lent
by Rev. Denise Bender and Rev. Nani Arning
Are you looking for a way to invite children deeper into discipleship this year?
Our experiential curriculum explores the stories of people who met Jesus through seven weeks of lessons for Lent, through Easter. By learning about the experiences the biblical characters had of Jesus, young disciples will make connections with their own lives as they grow in faith and understanding.
- The disciples experienced Jesus through invitation
- Peter experienced Jesus as strength
- Peter’s mother-in-law experienced Jesus through gratitude for his healing of her illness
- Mary and Martha experienced Jesus as teacher and friend
- The crowds on Palm Sunday experienced Jesus as excitement
- Mary Magdalene experienced Jesus as joy
Each lesson contains opportunities for discussion with children on the biblical story, encourages them to get more comfortable using their Bibles, and also includes craft and game ideas.
All of this – seven weeks of thoughtfully prepared lessons, with background information and supplemental activities, all cohesively designed to engage children in developmentally appropriate ways with the Lenten journey of discipleship – costs just $25.

Fools for Love:
A Lenten Study for Adults
by Rev. Kerry Greenhill
Fools for Love: A Lenten Study is a seven-week experience in reading, reflection, prayer, and spiritual practice. The title was inspired by the dates for Lent in 2018, when Ash Wednesday fell on Valentine’s Day and Easter happened to be April Fools’ Day. Although these holidays rarely coincide in such a serendipitous way, the themes and connections they raised felt applicable beyond the particulars of colliding calendars, and so one year’s online Lenten retreat has become a downloadable study for any year.
Each week, you will be invited to read Scripture, reflect on and discuss its meanings, and take part in some intentional action or spiritual practice. Using readings from the Revised Common Lectionary (Year B), we will journey with Jesus and his disciples toward Jerusalem and the cross, considering how the path of faith seems foolish by the world’s standards, while offering a surprising connection with the abundant life that God offers through Christ and the Holy Spirit.
This study might be for you if you have ever thought any of the following seem foolish, at least in the eyes of the world:
- Prayer and Fasting
- The Crowd
- Loving Service
- The Cross
This spiritual study can be completed with an adult Christian education class, small group, or individually. Upon purchase, you will be emailed a link to download the packet of materials, which you are welcome to print out if you wish.

Holy Week & Easter:
Things We Thought We Knew
a dramatic reading for Palm/Passion Sunday, by Rev. Kerry Greenhill
Five people who were present for the life and death of Jesus reflect on what he meant to them, from the perspective of the day after his crucifixion. This reader’s theater-style drama is approximately 16 minutes long, and functions well in place of the sermon on Palm/Passion Sunday, or Good Friday.
Download a preview copy: This file contains only the first and last pages of the script for preview purposes.
Purchase through PayPal ($25.00): After you have submitted your payment, you will be redirected to a page where you can download the complete performance version of the script. (If you are not redirected, please email email@example.com.)
If you cannot afford the purchase price, please contact us to request a discount.
Thomas gets a bad rap for doubting the news of Jesus’ resurrection. But rather than a failure of faith, his reaction can be read as his simple desire for the same experience the other disciples had, and as the depth of his grief over Jesus’ death. If you have ever known doubt or heartbreak, and found it difficult to switch gears when good news comes along, you might identify with Thomas.
This 5-minute monologue could replace or augment the Scripture reading, and serve as a jumping-off point for a sermon, on the second Sunday of Easter. Download for free, and if you choose to use it in worship, we would welcome a donation of whatever you can afford to support the ongoing work of Sacred Stones Ministries.
