Call to Worship
One: Here we are, God:
Many: gathered and waiting,
One: eagerly following,
Many: curious and cynical,
One: desperate and faithful,
Many: insistent and hopeful.
One: We are crying out for mercy,
Many: waiting for healing,
One: protecting the status quo,
Many: learning as we go.
One: Open our hearts and minds, O God,
that we might recognize your presence in our midst.
All: Bless us with new vision and affirmation,
that we might follow Christ faithfully on the Way.
Prayer of Confession
God of mercy and mystery,
we confess that too often we are more like the crowd
telling the person in need to be quiet,
than we are like bold Bartimaeus,
crying out for what we need,
then following Jesus on the Way;
or like Jesus, who saw a person and not a nuisance,
asked a question instead of making an assumption,
affirmed faith rather than criticizing methods of getting attention.
Forgive us, loving God,
and help us grow into the people you created us to be:
affirming and encouraging, blessing and healing,
following Christ faithfully wherever he leads. Amen.
Words of Assurance
Even when we fall short, God is faithful.
In Jesus, we see the fierce truth of God’s unlimited love.
And so, by God’s grace, you are forgiven,
and set free to live your life in a new direction.
All: Thanks be to God. Amen.
May you know that God hears the cries of your heart,
even when others would silence you.
May Christ’s words of blessing renew your spirit
and bring you healing.
May the Holy Spirit lead you forward
to live out your faith with boldness each day.
