Litany for A People of Good News

By Kerry Greenhill © 2017

Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost, Year A

Based on Matthew 16:21-28

One: The world is full of fear, anger, struggle, and suffering.

Many: Yet we are called to be a people of good news for all the world.

One: When we hear difficult truths, we long to turn away.

Many: Yet we are called to be a people of good news for all the world.

One: When we experience injustice, we may cling to bitterness or long for vengeance.

Many: Yet we are called to be a people of good news for all the world.

One: When we are doing well, we may cling to our possessions, position, power, or privilege.

Many: Yet we are called to be a people of good news for all the world.

One: When we see another struggling, we may believe they are getting what they deserve.

Many: Yet we are called to be a people of good news for all the world.

One: God of hope in the midst of hardship, life beyond death,
and healing truth in a world that prefers pleasing lies,
help us to see clearly the reality that we most need to face.
Give us courage to show up, stand up, speak out, reach out,
take action for justice, serve with grace and compassion,
listen with humility and give generously however we can.
Teach us how to take up our cross and follow your beloved child, Jesus,

Many: So that we can become a people of good news for all the world.
